New cloud-based solutions provide framework and translation support for industry-standard terminology, facilitating better data integration across multiple systems
ATLANTA —May 22, 2013
Liaison Healthcare, a global provider of secure cloud-based integration and data management services and solutions, announced today the launch of its Healthcare Terminology Manager (HTM) and Healthcare Terminology Translator (HTT) as a part of the organization’s cloud-based Healthcare Information as a Service solutions suite. The new products provide health systems with a framework and translation support for managing different industry-standard controlled medical vocabularies, facilitating a seamless process for data exchange across the continuum of care.
Liaison Healthcare identified the need for an easy-to-use solution that connects and integrates to applications that need access to controlled medical vocabularies (CMVs). The Healthcare Terminology Manager and Healthcare Terminology Translator solutions provide a semantic framework and translation support for interoperability. By implementing the solutions, health systems are able to:
- Access up-to-date CMVs through cloud-based services
- Search or look-up terminologies, vocabularies and code sets
- Connect and integrate into applications that need access to CMVs
- Create an authoritative source of vocabulary, terminology and codes required for clinical uses
- Map standard terminologies to ensure similar codes and vocabularies are correlated
- Transition to target standard terminology with support for forward and backward mapping
With healthcare delivery becoming highly dependent on information technology, the need for current and accurate information about patients, diseases and medications is imperative for clinical processes and decision making for improved patient care. Because there is no single vocabulary or terminology that fits all medical needs, healthcare IT organizations are faced with the challenge of coordinating, implementing and managing the myriad of terminologies and code sets needed for day-to-day care and operations. To add to that challenge, thousands of new terms are created and updated annually.
“Healthcare delivery continues to evolve, and health systems need real-time, current and accurate information to streamline processes and ensure that procedures are defined accurately for clinical and billing purposes,” said Gary Palgon, vice president, healthcare solutions, Liaison Healthcare. “Liaison Healthcare’s Terminology Manager and Translator solutions not only provide cloud-based, real-time access to standard medical terminology, vocabulary and code sets, but also supports integration into existing healthcare systems for improved organizational workflow and patient care.”
